The Beauty of Botox
Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. Over six million procedures are administered every year. The treatments will not only help get rid of the deep lines and wrinkles on your face but it will help you look younger and feel great.
The Working of Botox
The first thing to understand about this procedure is what Botox actually is and how it works.
Botox, for the past twenty years, has been made by a company called Allergen. It is purified under strict conditions that are completely controlled and made so that every batch adheres to the highest safety regulations. While other companies also produce very similar products (eg. Juverderm), none of them have the same safety record or have proven to be as effective as Botox.
The cosmetic is made in a lab from a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum. After being purified, it is administered to patients in the form of a liquid. The liquid is injected into the skin directly to the area that has to be treated. The liquid does not spread to other areas and is completed restricted to the treatment zone. It works on the muscles that are underlying the skin and relaxes them. When this happens, the wrinkles and lines also relax and become less deep. The cosmetic wears off after 3 to 6 months. After this period, your wrinkles and lines will gradually start to reappear and you can do the procedure again. As your muscles get used to the procedure again and again, they train themselves to relax and you will notice that the lines and wrinkles naturally become less deep over a period of time.
It is important to remember that this procedure cannot be used to get rid of wrinkles that are caused by sun damage. Botox is most effective for forehead lines, smile or frown lines and crow’s feet.
The Botox Procedure
The procedure itself is a very simple one. As long as you choose an experienced cosmetic surgeon, there is a very small chance of it going wrong. Side effects are also very rare. However, you should visit the doctor before the treatment and ask if your skin may react to it. Most doctors will also advise you to stay away from alcohol for a week or so before the procedure and avoid taking any Aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicine for two weeks before the treatment is administered.
The whole treatment takes on a few minutes and you won’t even require any anesthesia. While the needles are being injected you may feel a little uncomfortable but this feeling will disappear soon. Once that is done, you can get back to your normal routine. The effects of the treatment may take up to a week to become fully effective.
